Review #38 - Single Varietal Vodkas

With the huge win for Ampersand's Per Se Vodka, picking up World's Best Single Varietal Vodka at the World Vodka Awards; I decided to take a geeky Soole approach to this week's episode and explore single varietal vodkas from fruit to honey to grain and potatoes. Featuring Merridale Cowichan fruit Vodka, Wayward distillation house Unruly Honey Vodka, Stealth Distilleries Corn Vodka, Schramm Potato Vodka and finally the show runner, Ampersand Distilling Per Se.

I sit down with the lovely duo from Odd Society Spirits in Vancouver and chat about the beginnings of Odd Society, whisky and how they have gain loyal followers to their brand.

Episode #6 - WhiskyFest Edition, Jacob Wiebe of Shelter Point

Another great episode during Victoria WhiskyFest, this time sitting down with Canadian Whisky Awards multiple award winners, Jacob Wiebe from Shelter Point in Campbell River. One of my favourite distilleries in the province with exceptional whiskies.

Episode #5 - WhiskyFest Edition, Grant Stevely from Dubh Glas and Noteworthy Gin

Victoria Whiskyfest brought a number of amazing producers and distillers to the city, we took the time to sit down and get to know their stories. Stevely is a ridiculously talented distiller out of Oliver and his passion for whisky innovation is amazing.

Episode #4 - Shawn Dalton of Marrow Vermouth

Another slight throwback to when I got to sit down with Shawn Dalton from Marrow Vermouth and chat about vermouth, his inspiration behind Marrow and more. Really great episode.

BC Spirits #3 - Peter Hunt of Victoria Distillers and Empress 1908

Had a great chat with Peter Hunt from Victoria Distillers, from humble beginnings to a huge success where last year, the Empress 1908 beat out Hendrick’s in case sales.

BC Spirits #2 - James Lester of Sons of Vancouver

A throwback episode of when I sat down with James Lester from Sons of Vancouver and chatted about whisky, April Fool’s and Amaretto. Can’t wait to sit down and do another episode with him soon.

BC Spirits #1 - Quinn Palmer of Rootside Soda and Esquimalt Wine Co.

The very first official episode of the BC Spirits Podcast, I have no idea how this took me so long to do but it will be a new addition to all the stuff that BC Spirits puts out every week. This week I chat to Quinn Palmer from Esquimalt Wine Co. about vermouth, syrups and the wonderful hope of vermouth and tonic on tap!

Review #29 - Syrups and Shrubs with Rootside Sodas and Boozewitch

It's Dry January for a lot of people including myself so I decided to focus on the locally made syrups and shrubs in the province. Showcased the Rootside Provision and Booze Witch up from Gillespie's Fine Spirits.
