BC Spirits "Spirit a Day" #198 - Legend Distilling Silver Moon Gin

DISTILLERY NOTES

Crafted by hand, using wild sage, juniper and a secret blend of botanicals, this gin is inspired by the indigenous silvery sage it is named from, wild foraged in Naramata and picked fresh just before distillation. Botanical forward with a fresh, herbal finish.

BC SPIRITS NOTES

Want to taste something that would be a great pairing with you turkey today. The Legend Distilling Silver Moon Gin is just that, they already make an amazing base gin of balanced and nuanced aromatics but the addition of sage just adds that extra complexity to it all. BC Spirits "Spirit a Day" #197 - Stillhead Distillery Vodka

DISTILLERY NOTES

Incredibly smooth, creamy mouthfeel, and a slightly sweet after-taste. This vodka was borne for martinis, “on the rocks,” and any favorite cocktail.
This vodka won silver at the 2018 SIP Awards; an international blind taste competition held in Los Angeles, USA
.

BC SPIRITS NOTES

I am starting to come round more and more on the whole vodka thing, there is something pure and unadulterated about it. This one from Stillhead Distillery backs that assumption, malted wheat distilled to a high proof gives this a gorgeous nose of wet concrete with hints of soft vanilla; the palate doesn’t change either, textural, mineral and soft with a long clean finish.

Alcohol - 40% / 80 proof

Color - Clear

Nose - Wet concrete, sweet wheat and hints of vanilla

Taste - Mineral, textural, hints of creamy dairy vanilla and spice

Finish - Long and clean

Best Enjoyed - Super versatile, sub in for your macro brands

BC Spirits "Spirit a Day" #196 - Roots and Wings Johnny Handsome

DISTILLERY NOTES

Back in 2017 at the Roots and Wings Distillery, we set aside some pure corn spirit in a new charred barrel and waited for it to mature into a handsome young bourbon style spirit.

Johnny Handsome is ready to come out to play. Unveiled on November 22, 2019, he is rough around the edges but deeply refined kind of spirit with the soul of a centenarian but the body of a barrel-chested Viking that will knock you off your feet. This new whiskey is best enjoyed neat or with a splash of water.

BC SPIRITS NOTES

Roots and Wings Stillhouse Johnny Handsome Bourbon Style Whisky is legit. 3 years old, deep semi sweet chocolate, red fruit and sweet corn. The palate is rich, deep and balanced between the heavy charred barrel notes of vanilla and caramel and the sweet notes of corn. Get it in your collection ASAP!

Color - Dark copper orange

Nose - Big charred vanilla bomb, light oak and semi sweet chocolate

Taste - Dry cacao, hints of red fruit, sweet corn, and gorgeous charred oak and vanilla

BC Spirits "Spirit a Day" #194 - Okanagan Spirits Laird of Fintry 2019

DISTILLERY NOTES

A Canadian Single Malt Whisky produced in small batches using 100% B.C. malted barley, B.C.’s oldest craft distillery releases the exclusive Laird of Fintry Single Malt Whisky only once a year through a lottery.

Okanagan Spirits Craft Distillery wanted to pay homage to the Okanagan when naming its Canadian Single Malt Whisky.

‘The Laird of Fintry’ title is based on the true story of James Cameron Dun-Waters, the ‘Laird’ of Fintry estates in Fintry, BC, who in the early 1900s ordered a special batch of personally labelled Single Malt Whisky (Scotch) from his homeland Scotland.

Using a replica of the original label, Okanagan Spirits Craft Distillery wanted to honour the history of whisky in the Okanagan.

BC SPIRITS NOTES

This is the last of the 2019 vintage of the Okanagan Spirits Laird of Fintry. Big bold wine barrel finishing with red fruit and plums balancing off that bright cut grass of the Okanagan Spirits distillate. Enjoy with a good cigar.

Alcohol - 42% / 84 proof

Color - Deep burnt copper orange

Nose - Hints of oak, plum and red berries, wallops of vanilla

Taste - Gorgeous base structure, red fruits, plums, hints of deep cacao with high notes of oak, vanilla and bright tones of grass and rolling hills

Finish - Long rich finish of vanilla, oak and sweet fruit

Best Enjoyed - Neat with a cigar

BC Spirits "Spirit a Day" #193 - Noteworthy Barrel Rested Gin

DISTILLERY NOTES

Our Barrel Rested gin is our signature New Western Dry that has been aged in select oak barrels for more than a year. Each barrel release develops unique complexity and depth through maturation. It entices you to contest convention and explore new sensory sophistication.

BC SPIRITS NOTES

I still feel that barrel aged gins are horribly misunderstood but the Noteworthy Gin from Dubh Glas Distillery uses the addition of a years worth of barrel resting to its advantage, creating a jacked up version of their classic gin where the barrel adds a spicy complexity of ginger and dried grapefruit peel.

Alcohol - 43% / 86 proof

Color - Light wheat gold

Nose - Light oak with undertones of floral notes of lavender and citrusy juniper

Taste - Bright citrus, grapefruit pith, juniper and floral tones lead into subtle but pronounced light oak

Finish - Clean, bright citrus and strong floral tones

Best Enjoyed - Sub for their regular gin to give it a boot up in your cocktails.

DISTILLERY NOTES

Created using Okanagan, BC, Jonah Gold and Hyslop Crab apples it delivers a distinct change-up between lively flavours of exotic fruit and cinnamon with the aromas of the oak barrel that has set free hints of vanilla.

Stored in French Oak barrels for a minimum of three years this apple brandy has convinced many Single Malt (Scotch) connoisseurs with it’s oak finish and makes an ideal gift for whisky drinkers.

Great as a stand-alone sipper, in Sidecars and any recipe that calls for Calvados.

BC SPIRITS NOTES

Everyone knows my undying love of brandies and I honestly can’t believe I haven’t done this one before. The Okanagan Spirits Canados is a great example of what you can create in BC when it comes to amazing apple brandies, a blend of Okanagan apples and aged in French oak for three years; it’s bright, tannic and delightfully balanced with the barrel aging.

BC Spirits "Spirit a Day" #191 - DeVine Distillery Ancient Grains

DISTILLERY NOTES

What do we mean by ‘Alternative Whisky’? …Alt Whisky is described as a modern, new world spirit made using alternative grains and techniques and by the whims and desires of the distiller them-self.

With that in mind, Ancient Grains was born. Distilled from BC barley, spelt, emmer, khorosan and einkorn-the ancestors of all modern grains and deeply significant to the culture and heritage of our province. Guaranteed to be one of the most unique whiskies one has ever laid lips to.

Aged in new American oak quarter-casks; notes of candied fruit and macadamia nuts combine with spicy notes of clove, allspice and smoke.

BC SPIRITS NOTES

This is a special one from DeVine Distillery, a true exploration into terroir specific grains from the Saanich Peninsula. Complex grain profiles unlike anything you’ve ever tasted, deep sweet notes blend with spicy tones and husky grain profiles.

Alcohol - 45% / 90 Proof

Color - Deep burnt orange

Nose - Complex grain structure, spicy, sweet and husky grains

Taste - Massive texture, difficult to put your finger on the flavors as the grains they use are so unique and different that it’s hard to pinpoint the flavors. You have spicy notes balanced with deep sweet tones reminiscent of rye and corn. Completely unique.

Finish - Long and lingering spicy and wood oak

Best Enjoyed - Neat
